About two weeks ago, I went out to dinner with a friend and I was in awe of how different she looked. I hadn’t seen her in several months and it was very apparent that she had “toned up.” Her arms were much leaner and her overall body looked much tighter. After a half an hour of catchup time, I finally asked her if she had lost weight. Her response was automatic, as if she had been asked this before: “No, I’ve been doing P90X.” I’ve heard about this program and have always been curious about its effectiveness. But, after seeing my friend’s results, I was inspired to make the commitment.
For those of you who are not familiar with the P90X Extreme Home Fitness Workout Program, it is a system of 12 workouts that are designed to “transform your body from regular to ripped in just 90 days.” The program is taught by personal trainer Tony Horton, via a set of 12 DVDs. Each DVD is one day’s workout…so, the DVDs last two weeks without repeating any of the workouts (assuming you follow the 6 workouts a week rule). The program includes both strength or weight training and aerobic exercise, utilizing a muscle confusion technique. What this means is that your body never fully adapts to the workouts because they are constantly changing.
Having been in good shape for the better part of 19 years, I’ve always wondered if doing the P90X program would push my body into a new level of fitness. My general workouts have always incorporated weight training three days a week and aerobic exercise three days a week at a bare minimum. So, the idea of exercising 6 days a week, by no means, was a deterrent.
So, the DVDs are in my possession and I’m ready to start. Here is how the P90X Blog will work. I’m going to put all of the entries under our “featured” category. You’ll also be able to find updates under the Fitness Category on the Navigation Bar above. I will write a review of each workout so that you can follow along and find out what I like, what I don’t like, what works and what doesn’t. And, after the first two weeks, I’ll be writing updates as I go on a regular basis. That way, if you choose to embark on the P90X journey, you will know what to expect…completely.
