I’m honored. 52 Small Changes: One Year to a Happier, Healthier You has spawned off some interest in the social media domain…in a truly meaningful way. There are groups of people forming that will be taking on the challenge of 52 Small Changes together. This is EXACTLY how I intended the book to be used. I wanted it to inspire a movement towards better health and improved happiness. I wanted families to embark on the journey together, I wanted friends to make it a project, and I hoped that people would get that. And somehow, they are.
The first movement I’ve found is on the ‘Hood at The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans. Christy Mensi is …”so inspired by 52 Small Changes that [she's] going to live it every single week over on the ‘hood – the Sisterhood’s Social Community – and [she wants] you to join [her]!” Each week she’s going to post about the week’s small change and will have others join her in the journey. And she started a formal group to do this. How wonderful!
For those of you unfamiliar with 52 Small Changes, it is my most recent book that encourages individuals to make positive, healthy change in their lives slowly. Whether as New Year’s resolutions, birthday wishes, or daily promises, most everyone vows at some point to make a major life change. But change is easier said than done, especially when it comes to better managing our wellness amidst the chaos of everyday living. Surely, this approach is not a quick fix, but it is a simple one: make one small change per week, for fifty-two weeks, and at the end of a year, you’ll be happier and healthier. In 52 Small Changes, I address all areas of wellbeing, including nutrition, exercise, stress management, mental wellness, and even the health of your personal environment. Not only do I discuss the changes, but I also give you tips on how to incorporate them into your life, tools to give you support in doing so, and extra credit if you’re currently incorporating some of the changes.
New Year’s a great time to embark on change in your life, but you can do so at any time. That said, your approach is what’s most important, and I’d like to start a movement for people to make small but meaningful adjustments. It is key is to making real change that lasts. I encourage all of you to create your own movement with friends or families.
